Tree services can be extremely expensive in todays market, we here at Roger B Sturgis own all of our equipment out right, which enables us to pass on significant savings to the consumer. Our tree division is a very important part of our business, but because it is just a part of our business, we can preform our tree services at a significantly lower margin than our competitors. We are confident that we can provide the highest quality of work at a fraction of the cost.
Pruning a tree can have many benefits. The first and most important is keeping the people around it safe. A dead branch can fall from a tree at any time, endangering nearby people, buildings, and power lines. Pruning a tree can influence in what way the tree grows. With proper pruning, a tree can be made to grow into a certain configuration of limbs and branches that is more ideal for the structural integrity of the tree. Structural pruning can also greatly improve the general look of the tree. If aesthetics are important to you, proper pruning can make a tree grow in the desired fashion.
We have a fantastic relationship with all of our plant vendors and growers. Collaborating with you, the customer, to find the one particular tree that is just the right fit is one of the best parts of this occupation. We will work together until we have a selection that is well suited for its enviroment and looks great. We will then hand plant the tree so it looks just right. We guarentee the survival of all of our tree plantings done in the reccommmended planting period: between April and October.

Land clearing is a combination of tree felling, stump grinding and disposal. We are able to provide land clearing services for a fraction of our competitors cost because we have a significantly large labor pool from our other business sectors. Bracing and Cabling
Tree cabling and bracing is the installation of flexible steel strand cables and braces in trees to reduce stress damage from high winds, the weight of ice or snow and heavy foliage. As certified arborists, our goal is to help strengthen weak branches or limbs so that they are better able to withstand severe weather and to improve their longevity and reduce potential risk. Weak limbs are not always obvious, but we will be happy to provide a free assessment of your trees. Our local tree doctors can help you identify particular weak points and examine bark or large codominant stems, which can be signals of tree weakness that need tree cabling and bracing.
Pests
There are several pests that can cause serious damage to our trees. Hemlock Wooly Adelgid and Winter Moth and Winter Moth Caterpillars are two that have been ravaging trees in the New England area. With careful and swift action we can eliminate these invasive pests from your trees before they cause irreversible damage.
Fertilization
Seeing forest trees thrive without fertilization gives the impression that tree fertilization isn’t necessary to maintain tree health. There are, however, two major environmental differences with the growing conditions between forest trees and landscape trees. Forest trees derive nutrients from the natural decay of organic matter, such as tree leaves and trees branches. This natural cycle is interrupted in a maintained landscape when we rake up leaves and remove fallen tree branches. Secondly, in many cases most, if not all, organic matter is removed from urban soils during the home construction process. The lack of naturally derived nutrients, less than ideal urban soils, and harsh environmental conditions puts landscape trees and shrubs under stress and increases the importance of a tree fertilizer program. Tree diseases, insect pests, and dead or broken tree branches are obvious signs that a landscape tree or shrub is in need of care. A trees’ requirement for tree fertilizer is a less obvious tree maintenance need, but is a very important tree maintenance practice that will encourage tree health. Implementing a tree fertilizer program will usually improve the appearance of trees and shrubs and help the trees and shrubs recover from attacks by insect pests. Healthy trees can withstand tree diseases better than stressed trees and will also be less susceptible to decline if subjected to drought. Fertilizing trees after tree trimming is done will also help speed the growth of callus tissue to cover the tree wounds.
Disease
There are many different diseases that affect landscape trees and shrubs. Control of tree and shrub diseases cannot be properly accomplished until the disease pest is identified. Identification of tree and shrub diseases is crucial because, although most diseases can be controlled, there are some diseases that cannot be controlled. Disease control on landscape trees and shrubs can sometimes be accomplished by more than one method, depending on the particular disease that if infecting your landscape plants. Fungicides are often used to control diseases on landscape trees and shrubs and fungicides may be sprayed, injected into the tree trunk, or even injected into the soil surrounding the roots of the tree or shrub. In other cases cultural changes, such as tree pruning, tree fertilization, or altering watering habits, may reduce disease infection on landscape trees and shrubs.
